This Week In TNA - BFG & Impact

Main Event

I thought Bound For Glory was exceptionally poor. It was littered with bad finishes and pseudo heat making rubbish.

The pre-show featured the tag team 4 way between Bad Influence, Eric Young & Joseph Park, Bro-Mans & Chavo + Hernandez. I didn't see it but Bro-Mans won, which is an odd decision outright as Bad Influence are the far hotter and better match producing team.

The arena holds ten thousand people but is set out to hold six thousand but only four thousand tickets are sold. The arena looks good, they're using the same videotron and walkway they use for Impact.

The opening match was the Ultimate X match, the five combatants, Aries, Hardy, Joe, Manik & Sabin should be able to put on a quality match. Unfortunately this was so underwhelming, it felt like it was only half a match as it was so short. The X ropes were used sparingly so the gimmick was redundant. There was a ridiculous spot where Hardy tried to do Whisper in the Wind but took so long, Sabin was standing there for an awkward amount of time, it looked stupid. The finish was really poor. Hardy had set up a ladder to climb and get the belt, Sabin threw Velvet in the ring to stop him. Hardy asks her to move, as Sabin gets in the ring and runs up the other side of the ladder. Hardy follows suit but Sabin snatches the belt and wins.

Bad Influence were in the ring talking, Eric Young came out and got beat down. Abyss made his return and Black Hole slammed Bad Influence.

The tag team title match was alright, Bro Mans had Mr Olympia with them as a cheerleader. Bro-Mans got a cheap win with a belt shot to win the belts.

Didn't watch the women's match so can't comment but the finish came when the rehash of Awesome Kong cleared house and then threw Gail Kim on top of Brooke to win the belt.

Angle turned down his induction into the Hall of Fame saying he's need to prove himself first. If he does, there is no chance for the rest of them.

Angle vs. Roode was a good match up until the finish. After a ding-dong battle, Angle had Roode in the Ankle Lock, the ref is doing the raise arm gimmick even though Roode is conscious. As he is raising Roode's arm he inadvertently helped Roode reached the rope. It was so badly done and not explained by Taz & Tenay it looked like the ref had put his arm on the rope. Then it got worse. Angle gets Roode on the top rope and decides to go for a Super Angle Slam. He hits it and both are down for a double down ten count. Roode breaks the count at nine and pins Angle to win the match. Angle isn't moving and has to be carried out on a stretcher. Now they're portraying their best wrestler as a clumsy fucker who knocks himself out doing his own move.

Next up is a slap in the face to those who paid to watch this show. Ethan Carter III vs. Jobber Joe in a squash match. Do this the next night on Impact, people paid to see decent contested matches not this faux heat rubbish.

Magnus vs. Sting could have worked under different circumstances but it was such a poor rehash of Sting vs. Flair at the first Clash. Sting was doing the Flair face bump and the crowd was Woooing him. Magnus was hulking up like Sting use to do, it was so obvious but Sting doesn't have it in him to elevate Magnus to another level.

The main event was good. Bully Ray was chopping like a madman. His chest was turning purple from all of the slaps. AJ did a crazy springboard off the ropes through the announce table. Bully had his gang keep interfering. The ring padding was torn up so Bully could inflict more damage. Dixie came out and tried to stop Earl making a three count. AJ hit the Spiral Tap to win and celebrated in the crowd.

They sent the fans home happy but they had to wade through a load of turd to get there.

Impact starts with a 20 minute segment featuring Dixie, AJ & Bully. Dixie is telling AJ she made a mistake and wants him in the company. Bully comes out to berate AJ and give him a beatdown. Out comes the return of Mr Anderson to make the save and then gets carted off by the cops, why the fuck do they want this clown back.

A fan at ringside has a sign saying "Call the cops, Dixie is killing TNA."

Women's tag match with Lei'd Tapa interfering to let Gail Kim win. The most interesting part was Tenay mentioning this 24/7 show for TNA following the wrestlers everywhere. Sounds like car-crash TV.

Here comes ECIII, Christy Hemme fucks up his ring entrance twice. He's facing another jobber gimp. Waste of time again.

Roode & Angle have a face off, Angle confirms he knocked himself out at BFG. Jesus wept. Angle wants a return match now, Roode says he can't because Angle's got a concussion and then it ends into a brawl.

Bro-Mans are out for a party in the ring. GunStorm come out to break it up. Then Bad Influence follow suit looking for a title shot. Ends up in a mass brawl, then EY & Joseph Park join the brawl. All of these in ring segments are all the same.  Park gets juice from a bottle shot and then transforms into Abyss. Riveting segment.

Bully & AJ have a half decent BFG rematch. Bully takes the lions share of the match, he throws AJ so high on a back body drop he almost lands on his head. AJ gets back into it but here comes the ref bump and Bully whacks AJ with the chain. AJ recovers and Anderson comes out to cause a distraction for AJ to win the match. Anderson & Bully have a brawl, Anderson has somehow broken free from a handcuff so he can fight Ray.

Dixie tries to get AJ to sign a new lucrative contract but he drives out of TNA with the belt.

Supposedly next week there will a new tournament to determine a new champion and down the line AJ will come back. Sounds like the original plan Russo had for Bash at the Beach 2000.

Shitty ass PPV. This company really needed a grand slam of a PPV and this was not it, their PPV TV Specials were even better than this. Its sad. Its like they just don't get it.. 😕

Jeff Jarret should buy it again, the company was better when he was the owner

They only lasted 5 months when the Jarretts owned it. Then the Carters bought a majority share otherwise they would have gone bankrupt. And thats when they were doing small PPV's at the fairgrounds with tiny overheads compared to todays product.

Oh, well when TNA started their show Impact on Spike who was writing then? From like 05 - 07 that stuff was off the walls. They were actually a true blue alternative at that point.

Russo came back in late '06, before that I think Dusty was writing most of the TV. Could be wrong. Jarrett was a major part of it though, even though he wasn't the actual owner.

I agree that 2005 was great for TNA, but that's a long time ago. I'm more annoyed that they can't seem to get back to where they were in early 2012, when Russo had just left. Whoever was writing at that point - Bruce Prichard, maybe - was doing a great job for a few months right up until the Aces & Eights attacked Sting.
