Living in the past with TNA

Everyone is living in the past with TNA. A lot of people like to view it as the poorly booked show it was two years ago. Things have changed quite drastically. Finally the company is trying to be its own entity, before they were stuck trying to imitate the other company. Things like Gut Check and Open Fight now are new innovations they have tried and have been successful. Planning their storylines months in advance benefits them well. Never have heard much about companies doing that in recent memory.

I look forward every month to Open Fight Night. It just usually a fun broadcast. I loved it when, I think it was Bad Influence? Called out the Spanish announcers. That was good for a few laughs. I just feel like anything could happen on that night. If only they could stray away from some of the call outs being predictable that'd be nice.

Like I said before Gut Check is great. Not that it has produced any stars but how can it? It's only been going on for a little under a year now. But its a fresh idea. I liked it even better when they tweked it that two wrestlers compete against each other in the Gut Check match. Loved it at first when they showed the judges discussing the contestant (s), it had such a real feel to it. Hopefully they can keep this going.

Last year Slammiversary, Sting got attacked by the Aces and Eights. Its almost to that time of year again and the storyline is still going. Now the storyline does have its flaws, but when Bully Ray did that review of the steps to get to the World Championship, it was just a really good build to that point. I like how TNA is planning out storylines long term, like when Joey Ryan was on Gut Check then would come into the audience. That was so awesome and so unique it felt. Its something wrestling fans wanted for a long time, I'm glad that is what they are doing.

TNA is a healthy alternative to the WWE. Myself, I have stopped watching WWE. I work the graveyard shift, when I couldn't fall asleep I would turn on a episode of Raw. Not joking. TNA has gone on the road and it improves the show ten fold with a audience that is actually paying to see the product. Not to mention the talent is better and everyone seems to love WWE's production. But I love TNA's production. I loved the camera angles in the backstage and love the set and the ring color. If you guys stopped watching TNA a while ago, give it a chance, not just for one show. But give it a chance for a month or so. Be patient, wait for storylines to play out.

What now? I haven't watched TNA for years, apart from the odd live event when they come over here. So no idea what you're talking about.

Gut check is when they take basically two independant workers and have them work a match on Impact and one of the two gets to go before the judges to see if he wins a contract. Like Adam Pearce was on the last Gut Check and Joey Ryan was on Gut Check. Two more notable indy names. Joey Ryan has a contract but Pearce didn't get one.

You really should check out TNA again. Its a real breath of fresh air if you go into it with an open mind.

Yea Pearce worked a great match, but the large botch(spot)monkey masked dude got to go for the judges, I think he even got a contract? Holy shit that guy was horrid.

No he didn't. Unfortunately the match didn't impress me and I like Adam Pearce. I'm glad they said no to both of these guys though, I mean they had to have a no once in a while. They were on a streak of yes votes.

They said no to Ryan, but he kept showing up anyway. He beat Al Snow for his contract, which was ridiculous.

I like the idea, it's a good way to get new guys on the show, but I hate how they deal with the winners after they're done. Or, more accurately, how they don't. If they'd used Alex Silva on TV and had him find some minor success, more people would care about who else got signed. Sam Shaw is actually pretty good, they should have him involved in the X three ways. And there's no reason why Taeler Hendrix shouldn't be used a little more. To have everyone who has won a contract stay in OVW while a guy who didn't win one is on TV every week makes the concept look stupid.

TNA has been a lot better for a year or so. They seem to make bad decisions at the worst times, but overall it's been a huge improvement since Russo left. Definitely worth giving a try if you'd previously given up on it.

Does TNA still have its problems? Absolutely. However, it has drastically improved since Prichard took over the reins in the booking department. They still do some stupid shit, no doubt, but to me they have far better WRESTLING overall, which will always rate higher than what's going on storyline-wise. I'm not knocking WWE or its fans, but it seems like the promotions gets a pass for all of the stupid shit that they do JUST BECAUSE IT'S WWE; when TNA does something ridiculous, or ROH, or whomever, fans seem to crap all over them, but WWE does the same kind of thing and there's a "no harm, no foul" type mentality. At this point in time I think I can consider myself a casual fan of both promotions, as I tend to skip a lot of the filler material on both shows, but personal preferences dictate that what I have seen from TNA in the last while outshine WWE's output for the most part
