I always thought he was better in the Shield the first time around, where he was a good tag team guy and occasional singles. The booking of his matches when the split the Shield up didn't help. Everyone loved his superman punch. It was fine in tag matches and got a pop. Someone in the back obviously picked up that it gets a cheer and they went overboard with it when they split. It went from something different to wondering whether he can do anything other than that. They should have booked him to do more moves instead of constantly reusing the same one over and over again in a match. Formulaic, as you said.
That's probably my main problem with Reigns. He doesn't seem to have progressed. I'm sure he can do more than what he does, so show us it. It's like what people said about Cena and his five moves of doom. Except we all know that Cena can do more than that as he showed it before he became so big a star. Reigns does seem to work better with a partner. I don't see him as the face of the company.
I think he's a good wrestler. He's never going to be Kurt Angle or Shawn Michaels but if you think he can't be a good wrestler, you probably should watch more Roman Reigns matches. 😋

I get the feeling Roman takes direction pretty well, just watch John shouting at him when they take the stereo 619. So, I don't think he's necessarily a bad wrestler, he just needs a Paul Heyman kind of guy to help him get over as a singles wrestler. Or chuck him back in a tag team or group with Seth Rollins and watch the money flow in!
And yeah, a few more moves to expand his arsenal would be nice too.

If the end result is the same what does if matter? Although I think to say he got completely carried is to understate his ability. Reigns helped make Strowman, he was pretty green for a while.

Roman Reigns isn't a bad wrestler at all..
However, the past few weeks he has come across almost out of shape.. he seems to get blown up faster than ever.
I should add, that I didn't think he was that bad at the Rumble. If it's your first time seeing him, I can understand not seeing him as the face of the company, but not that he's shit. There was worse than him in there. And the Rumble is never a good place to see what anyone is like as a wrestler.
He's fine for what he does. Could do with one or two more moves and a slight improvement. A manager might help. I agree that he's better in a tag team, it suits his style and limitations well. He's better than Jinder...
He just came off as being super green even after performing 300 days a year for a very long time now. The best way to get over as a face is to relax and find a way to really have fun with the show. When you're having a blast out there, the audience can tell and they will get behind you.

I've always thought Hulk Hogan was a good example of a wrestler not needing to be good to make it.
Hogan was a decent wrestler, but he had a small moveset as it was better for the fans. One move lined up the next. Much like Cena, they could both wrestle but we're booked not to do many moves for the fans
Hogan is an interesting case... as there were basically two hogans... the american hero we all know of... and then there was japan hogan... who did a lot of things we never seen him do in wwf or wcw.

Roman when they don't have him constantly doing the superman punch in a match is quite good... Always bothers me when they have someone over using their signature move like that. He's certainly been showing that he's a good heel recently.
Anyone who thinks Roman is a bad wrestler should watch his match with Kevin Owens at TLC last night. Phenomenal match.

Booking is key. We've seen it with others, mainly the guys that have come over from Japan. We know they can wrestle but for some reason they get booked like shit. Roman has been in the same boat. He can go, but they started doing what they did with Cena. People don't want to see the same few moves only in a match on repeat. Mix it up, show us what they can do or at least book them as a complete asshole character so they have an extra edge to it to boo on. TLC was showing what Reigns can do when booked right. He looked good. Although Owens is one of those guys who can make anyone look good, but I'd still say that was a good effort from all. But yeah, it's all how they're booked. Cracks me up when you know WWE want someone to be their next star and so book their character and matches to be the most boring thing on the show and just keep at it. This is the Reigns we want and I love it.

I just watched the 2018 Royal Rumble and it was my first time really watching any wrestling from after 2012 aside from one occasional match here and there, and this was my first time seeing Roman Reigns and thought he was a bit shit.
So I'm going to rant about why I thought he wasn't very good ok go
I know his history, his family, all about The Shield and how WWE is booking Reigns to be the top star and that the crowd is resisting, but fuck he was a real piece of shit tonight. Sluggish, unenthusiastic, formulaic, clueless about how to react to boos, and he seemed just straight up dumb to me. Not a fan at all.
All of the real gamechangers, all of the true top stars WWE has ever had - Bruno, Flair, Hogan, Andre, Savage, Michaels, Hart, Austin, Rock, Angle, Trips, Cena, Lesnar, Punk, Bryan... all over as fuck at some point, and all were really able to connect with the crowd and get them excited with something really special that hadn't been done before. They've all clearly been an actual smart person who understands the industry, the crowd, and was able to get themselves 11/10 over with the fans at some point.
My impression is that Reigns is just straight up not as intelligent as any of the names I mentioned, and could never have gotten this high on the card based purely on his merits as a pro wrestler. I feel like he should have been a solid tag team wrestler if paired with a strong partner or something, but face of the company I sure as fuck hope not.
