What do we do without a #2 company?

So far today, the following names have been released from TNA:

Joey Ryan
Madison Rayne
Crimson
Christian York
Taeler Hendrix

According to PWInsider.com, the releases were made as a cost cutting measure in TNA, and the above names were being paid a monthly guarantee with an additional fee when they were booked for events. TNA officials felt those cut were not being used regularly so there was no need to keep them under contract.

According to ProWrestling.net, sources with TNA have said the company was, and still may be several weeks behind on paying some of its workers. The report indicates that a "prominent former TNA champion" is saying they were, at one point, six weeks behind on payroll.

This news comes after the release of Madison Rayne, and our recent report that things are not currently stable in TNA's developmental territory, OVW.

Looks like TNA is having its fair share of money problems which got me thinking. What would we do if TNA wasn't around? Its nice having an alternative brand around to save us from the same old stuff that the WWE provides us with each week. But without TNA being around, I don't know what I would watch.

I don't think I would watch wrestling anymore. I already don't watch WWE anymore and watching indy wrestling is just to much of a chore (Buying DVDs instead of a weekly show). I really hope TNA keeps going and this isn't a sign of things to come. I hope it is just a rough patch that the company is going through. I really have enjoyed TNA ever since they changed their direction on things. They seem to be trying new ideas and doing new things.

What would we do though...?

So TNA use OVW as a developmental now? That's weird unless it's a different OVW.

But TNA's only option is to continue trodding along in WWE's shadow or just go bankrupt. They haven't been progressing enough as a company and have been digressing if anything.

Is it really a surprise that TNA have so much money issues? They have a terrible product. They haven't had a great show since 2005. If they went bankrupt, I'd continue to watch WWE like I do now. WWE isn't always great, but it's better than the garbage TNA produces (not trying to start a WWE v TNA debate here, just my opinion).

If TNA went bust, WWE might sign a few of their talent... and most probably in a few years a different promotion would climb up to become the new "#2" ... although there's such a big difference in success, money and production between WWE and any other company being the second biggest in America is not really saying much.

I would hope their would be another company who rises up. Because I just can't watch the WWE anymore. Seeing the same booking pattern every week is just too mind numbing. Its so frustrating. The company also doesn't really care about fans... I feel TNA cares about their fans and if you compare a WWE live event to a TNA live event you will see that. If WWE is the only major Pro Wrestling company out there, I don't want to be a wrestling fan anymore. Because WWE is putting out some of its worse shit in years and late WCW would have been entertaining compares to this crap that we get on a daily basis. How many shows does this company have? 3 or 4? One is three hours, I don't need a sleeping pill for insomnia, I just put on a episode of Raw..

Better than Essa

They cut them because they weren't using them? So...why not use them instead? I know why they didn't use Rayne, she's pregnant, so I'm sure this news is exactly what she was hoping for. As if the girls weren't being drastically underpaid anyway...

Joey Ryan was a nice change of pace from everyone else on the TNA roster. I found him utterly disgusting... so his gimmick was working. They really built up Crimson with that streak last year (two years ago?). I wasn't impressed with Christian York, but they should have given him a chance to show what he's got.

The old guys and X-wwe guys aren't doing it. the ratings are the same as before they got there, and the cost is, i'm guessing, at least twice as much.

I think that they should have just 'TNA' guys, and showcase what they can do in the ring.

Besides Punk, I haven't really paid attention to WWE in years. I've watched the fed since just before the first Wrestlemania and it's never been worse than it is now, even during the relatively abysmal early to mid-90's. ROH seems to be hanging on by the skin of their teeth, but let's be honest: they'll never be a viable alternative to WWE with mainstream fans (even though I still enjoy what they do, by and large). If I had to choose between watching just WWE or nothing else, because there WAS nothing else, well, I guess my long era of fandom would end, because honestly, I just can't stomach the promotion in their current incarnation

I think that if TNA & ROH went under, rather than bingo-hall promotions or Chakara, die-hard fans would probably just turn to NJPW or the other Japan-based feds.

Thanks. Rereading it, my post sounds rather condescending to existing WWE fans, and I apologize. I mean, if you enjoy the current product, cool. After all, you like what you like. I was just trying to get the point across that what I see on WWE just isn't for little ol' moi. Hopefully there's always some kind of alternative to the big fed though, for those fans, like myself, who enjoy being given the choice to watch something else, instead of being force-fed what a monopolizing oligarchy decides to feed you.

This is how I feel about TNA. I used to love TNA, probably more than WWE, back in 2003-2005 but then it turned sour fast. So I understand where you're coming from.

Oh, I'd still be a casual fan no doubt, but my hardcore fandom most likely would fall by the wayside. I'd still be ordering DVD's and the like from the "little guys", but my personal investment in wrestling itself would suffer greatly.

Nice to have differing viewpoints, that's for sure. After all, it'd be a pretty boring site if everyone had the exact same mindsets regarding wrestling, or "sports entertainment", or whatever you like to call it 😄

What would we do? We would be in the same position we were in back in April of 2001. WWE will always keep going and we will always have pro wrestling to watch. A new group will come up with enough cash to form another company just like they always do. The top talent will be in wwe and maybe with enough top level talent, a brand extention would work again.
