Report: Paige's In Ring Career Possibly Over?

- According to a report at pwinsider.com, WWE doctors have told Paige that they won't clear her from her recent injury setback, which would mean her wrestling career in WWE is over. This would be a similar situation as Daniel Bryan.

- WWE has not made any official statement and the only thing from Paige was an Instagram post saying that the "comeback is always stronger than the setback."

- If this report is true, we would expect WWE to promptly write her out of the Royal Rumble. More on this later...

It's rumored that her situation is similar to Hall of Famer Edge when he was informed by doctors that he had to stop wrestling immediately for fear of risking permanent paralysis. After the stinger Paige suffered during house show match, after which she lost feeling in her extremities, WWE took her off the tour until she could be tested.

This would be a shame, especially after having her only just return after so long out. And she's still very young as well, as she's only 25.

Wow, this is a bummer. Hope it isn't true. She's still starting her career, really.

I've just seen a load of people on Facebook questioning why no one is blaming Sasha. Er, how about because it was an accident. Sure she will feel pretty bad about it.

Shit happens in wrestling. On any other person, that kick would have been fine. So it's not really Sasha's fault. That's the risks of wrestling.

Right? Not sure why people are blaming her. And there are actually people asking for her to be fired for it as well.

Here's the video of the incident, and the actual title is "Should WWE fire Sasha Banks after this incident?!"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqzS7fIqjRE

Some are saying it was reckless, others saying that she should be fired.

Pretty sure we've seen that particular move before a few times in wrestling. Just unfortunate that Paige's neck couldn't stand up to it. Not good viewing though as Paige is quite visibly fucked up.

I'm still having trouble collecting my thoughts on all this.

Rhys noted to me about a risky or possibly unnecessary neck surgery Del Rio convinced Paige to get a year back or so. Speculative, but such a thing could tie in to why this incident had the effect it did.

Whatever the case, I've watched the video and this does not look good to me at all. I hope it isn't career-ending... that would be such a shame/waste, ridiculously sad etc. I'm a bit of a fan, and to be 25 with your whole career ahead of you and doing a successful heel run after such a long and tumultuous absence... it's like turning the tides, only for it all to be washed away. Again—I pray this won't be the case.

This is sad if it turns out to be true. She's one of my favourites in the womens division. At her age as well, she's only just starting her wrestling career really, and so to end up a neck that is so fucked up that it's compared to Edge, a veteran, is just sad. Even more so because she's only just come back from a long-term absence.

Hopefully some good rest, even a few months worth, and some strengthening of neck muscles will help her get back. But if it's a worry that she might cripple herself, WWE's position is completely understandable and no one wants to see her crawling around like that, struggling to move.

-- As covered before, WWE's Paige has been told by the company's team of medical professionals that she will not be cleared to return to the ring to wrestle, however, WWE is not planning to make any official statement or confirm that story publicly.

-- A few wrestlers have indicated privately that that they felt the spot between Paige and Sasha Banks that caused the latest injury was a bad idea. One wrestler said that the spot was "stupid" and that if it wasn't previously planned, it would be all Banks' fault.

-- However, the spot was planned in advance and the two wrestlers actually did the exact same move the night before at a house show in New York, so Paige knew it was coming. The problem was that she didn't brace herself and/or tuck her chin in, which likely caused a severe whiplash.

Some more news on the whole thing.

So... we still don't know what the deal is re: Paige'a condition/ability to eventually get back in a ring? Long-term, I mean.

All we know is she is out indefinitely - could be back in 3 months, could be back never. With WWE and their clearing of people, it's weird. They won't clear Bryan but Angle is OK with his five broken necks? So I dunno.

This is my problem with reports on this... Angle has a pretty fucked neck, having broken it a few times now. He was expected to retire a year or two ago with people saying that WWE wouldn't let him wrestle with his neck and it's history. I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if it's been recommended to him by doctors that he retires. But if he can get cleared to wrestle... and he would have had to pass tests to do so with WWE... then surely Paige can again at some point if she can sort her neck out and build the strength in it back up. It's a bit different to brain injuries though.

I don't blame Sasha for what happened.. but that move is really stupid to do on someone with neck issues... pretty much a whiplash type of move.

I do think Paige is young enough to return to the ring someday though... having neck injuries at a younger age gives you much better odds of recovering better than someone a bit older... i know that sounds dumb.. but its true, but also depends on the severity of the injured neck.

Yeah it wasn't the smartest of moves to do on someone with neck problems. Extra care needs to be taken and certain moves not used. Anyone blaming Sasha is out of line though. They did it fine the night before and she'd take worse moves than that. But I guess that's my point. She shouldn't take certain moves to help protect not just her, but her opponents who would be mentally damaged from crippling someone.

I reckon she'll be back. Maybe another year out or something. Mentioning strengthening neck muscles whilst mentioning Angle did give me a chuckle though, but that's only because I then thought of Paige with his huge bulging neck like Angle had a few years ago when he returned from a surgery and it just looked weird.
