I'm pretty sure at the NXT tapings they mention both. I'm also pretty sure the injury is a work to get her off NXT undefeated.

They didn't mention it in their statement about relinquishing it. Not seen the NXT tapings yet... but would be good if they do mention it since they've said that she's injured in a separate article.
Looking forward to her being called up. Whatever brand she ends up on she will improve the weak division.

If the injury is a work, then this is a shit way to take the title off her. Someone beating her for the belt after all this time would be huge. Should have kept it on her until the Mae Young Tournament. Had the winner get a title shot and then had them beat her for the title. Would take a big moment and make it even bigger by beating the unbeatable champion.
The decision has been made to move Asuka to the main roster once her broken collarbone heals. This is the reason WWE had her vacate the title instead of going back to NXT and losing it as it allows them to continue the undefeated streak gimmick. As reported before, there have been rumblings that the winner of the Mae Young tournament would end up being the new NXT champion, but as of this time, WWE has not made that official.
Good enough reason I suppose. Going to keep her undefeated streak going... so the only question is, what brand will she end up on?
Whatever brand it is, she will help the division.

Disappointingly, Asuka is joining Raw.
She will still be a welcome addition to the main roster, but I would have preferred SD.

What WWE don't seem to want to mention is that Asuka has broken her collar bone. They've mentioned the injury separately from the whole "relinquishing of the title" statement saying that she's out for around 6-8 weeks.
Asuka has not suffered a defeat in her entire NXT career, which by far surpasses the streak of Goldberg.
This marks the second time the NXT Womens Title has been vacated, with Paige previously vacating after being moved up to the main roster. It seems like a lock at the moment that Asuka will be called up now that she's no longer the champion, once she's healed up.
As for the title, this would be pretty cool:
