WWE has come to terms on the release of WWE Superstar Austin Aries. WWE wishes Aries the best in all of his future endeavors.

Shocking release. Anything to do with his nagging injuries perhaps?

Doubt it was due to injury. Probably over disagreements in the direction he was heading in with the company.

More fool the WWE here methinks... They could've done really well out of A Double.

He was the best developed guy on the show besides Neville. I'm curious as to the reasoning behind this, especially since he was gold on commentary.

According to PWTorch.com, Aries requested his release from the company, and it was granted, as he was unhappy being pigeonholed as a Cruiserweight, and saw much more potential for himself outside of the role he was given on 205 Live.

The report added that one source noted Aries had a bad attitude backstage in WWE, which might have made the decision easier for WWE officials to grant him his release. WZ’s Justin LaBar added that a source described Aries as “his own worst enemy politically”, and that WWE’s decision to grant him his release came on Tuesday of this week.

Moving forward, it’s likely Aries will end up back on the indie scene following his release, and he could also end up back in Ring of Honor or GFW if he is offered a return deal from either of those companies.

Aries last appeared on WWE television in a non-wrestling role on the June 20th edition of 205 Live, during which he revealed he was not medically cleared to wrestle following nagging neck and leg injuries.

Looks like I was right. Sadly Aries seems to have a aura around him that he's difficult to work with. Not the first time I've heard he has a bad attitude. But he's still one of my favorites. I wouldn't want to be wasted away in the cruiserweight division.

Disappointing, big fan of his. He shouldn't be in the cruiserweight division tho. Should have moved him to Smackdown where he would have flourished.

Rumor Mills are saying he had an attitude backstage too. Which doesn't surprise me.

Once a man would spend a week patiently waiting if he missed a stage coach, but now he rages if he misses the first section of a revolving door.

Reports I'm seeing say that his attitude stems from him asking to not be part of 205 Live and to be considered as just part of the Raw roster like people bigger than him. Can totally understand that, as he's good enough to go against most guys on the roster. Vastly underutilised putting him in 205 Live. A shame really. I was excited about 205 Live, but it shouldn't be limiting guys that can easily compete outside of the division.

Good enough to go against MOST? Dude Aries is a great wrestler and he can hang in the ring and in the mic with anyone on the WWE roster. No doubt about it.

I was going to say all. But then thought that there is still some real dross on the roster that not even the best can get good matches out of. So most covers all but a handful.

In my endless quest to keep us as updated as possible! Update on Austin Aries' release. Sounds like no one is going to miss Aries. I bet he just acted like he was above everyone in the cruiserweight division. Which besides Neville, he is. But damn, sometimes you just gotta put up with your spot for a while. His release was probably the best for both parties.

The most recent Wrestling Observer Newsletter confirms that many of the writers and fellow cruiserweights were not unhappy to see him go based on his attitude.

Aries had a 90-day non-compete agreement attached to his WWE contract which ends on October 5, 2017 according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Aries will continue to collect his downside guarantee from WWE until that point and will be able to use the Austin Aries name after the agreement expires.

Aries can work independent dates during the next three months but the dates will have to be approved by WWE. This means he won’t be working anywhere WWE doesn’t want him working after his non-compete expires.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter also notes the terms of Aries’ release are consistent with a WWE-decided release. Had he quit on his own the company could have at least attempted to enforce the remainder of his contract.
