According to Dave Meltzer, The Undertaker had requested that he face John Cena at this year’s big event. The bout between the two would have been one of WWE’s last remaining dream matches and fulfilled a wish for fans who never got to see the two iconic superstars lock horns at The Showcase of the Immortals.
Vince McMahon reportedly vetoed that request. The Chairman’s thought process was that WWE had to think long-term rather than short-term, and the best way to do that would be to have Taker pass the torch to the man we all know Vince will go to his grave trying to turn into the next face of the WWE.

I know we knew this already, at least some of it....

It's too bad, considering it was basically the takers final request.. but i get why it was turned down..

Roman is the future, regardless of how fans feel about that.... and Cena, is winding it down, a little bit more every year.

By the way, i believe he said this on WOR podcast.

Can't say I'm overly interested in seeing Cena vs Taker. Although it would have been a better and more interesting match.

Makes sense as to why Vince vetoed it. I think Taker should have gone out on a high, so would have preferred him to face someone else. Plus it kind of turns Reigns heel now as fans hate him for it. It will be good for him and fans would cheer him soon enough.

Admin and 4CW Head Booker

I get Vince's decision - but I still wold have loved to see Cena v Taker. It would have been one for the ages, ala Hogan v Rock or Rock v Cena. Shame we'll never get to see it at Mania.
