For the first time since the event’s debut in 1987, WWE Survivor Series has been expanded to a four hour event, not including any of the usual kickoff show matches and analysis. WWE.com is listing this year’s Survivor Series pay-per-view as starting an hour before they usually start a PPV.

Matches:

Anyone else find it funny that Nikki is the team captain for Smackdown's womens SS match? Surely it should go to the champion? Just think it's weird. The champions shouldn't even have to qualify unless they're going to be in their own match. Maybe that's what they'll do.

Extra long PPV as well. Wouldn't surprise me if they did that with 3 of their joint PPVs, with the exception being Royal Rumble as there's just no need to extend that.

Maybe they plan on Becky defending the title against Alexa, and fill the Tag Match with Nikki, Carmella, Natalya, Naomi and a returning Eva Marie (using the dislike within the team as leverage for the story).

Yeah that's what I'm thinking they might do. Make no sense otherwise. But this is WWE, they've done loads that hasn't made sense before.

Zayn beat Rusev on Raw tonight to get the shot at Zigglers IC Title. Bit odd having a Raw guy going for a Smackdown belt. Can't see Ziggler losing, but if they're going to do this in future with other champions at joint PPVs, then it could be a cool way to move someone to another brand.

First post updated.

So Becky is the only champion that is part of a traditional Survivor Series match that isn't captioning her team. That just doesn't seem right at all.

Not on board with the tag team one. I mean, just look at the picture, it's way over crowded... so you can imagine how it will look come the PPV and fans won't be able to see the beginning of the match as there'll just be so many guys stood on the apron.

Apart from those minor gripes, it's looking like a pretty solid card I think. Not expecting it to disappoint.

Agreed on the tag match.

I understand that 5-on-5 is the "traditional" Survivor Series match, but I think the 4-person teams were a lot better when they did that for a few years in a row during the early 90's.  They had some really funny gimmicky names, paired up people well, and it usually made for 2 singles and a tag, four heels, or two tags to make a 4-person team.

I think it made for better interactions, more time in the ring for everyone, and made the eliminations have more of an impact.

Either way, I dig the idea of this show overall.  It's like Bragging Rights, but a bit more subtle and not as lame especially with the luster of the Survivor Series name being attached to it.

Considering the brand split is in stone for years to come, I hope this marks a resurgence in Survivor Series meaning a damn again.  Hopefully they can come up with different ways for the brands to go at it if these ideas this year don't quite work (which I only see the tag match being a disaster right off the bat)...once the champions and rosters are established, and we haven't seen certain people wrestle for over a year and a half...it'd be nice to see Charlotte vs. Becky or AJ vs. Rollins or whatever.

To be fair, you can do all that with a 5-person team (five heels, two tags and a single, 3 singles and a tag) and come up with some good stuff. Not that WWE have done it that well but I digress.

Disappointingly, I've had to update the IC Title match. It's unusual for WWE to do a title change when a title match has been set up already for a PPV. In that it's good to see, as usually when Raw or Smackdown do have a title match and there's already a PPV match set up for it, you can easily call that the title isn't changing hands. Maybe not so much anymore, which is cool. Not happy that Ziggler lost though as Ziggler/Zayn was likely to be my match of the night.

Zayn's gonna win though which just makes this title change a waste and a transitional reign. I hate transitional reigns. The logic makes no sense. So Ziggler loses to Miz to save him from taking the loss at Survivor Series... but surely taking the loss to Miz completely counteracts the protection they tried to lay on him? Ziggler vs Zayn would have been a much better match and Zayn could have won with Ziggler looking strong, instead we get a admittedly decent match with Miz but ultimately a match that reverses everything that was build with Ziggler in the whole retirement angle.

Intrigued to see the Goldberg/Lesnar match. Goldberg can't have wrestled in 10 years and never had the gods gift talent anyway so if he's as rusty as a century old bolt. It's just going to be a stiff old scrap.

Well that made absolutely no sense whatsoever. Not just the loss, but absolutely jobbing Lesnar out. Lesnar, the guy who can't loses to a guy, who hasn't wrestled in 12 years, in literally 2  minutes. Yeah... there's no logic to that at all. They could have done so much more, had a brawl, etc. Didn't need to be a classic or a suplex fest, but for the main event it needed to be more than that.

Apparently there will be a rematch at the Rumble as Goldberg has extended his deal with WWE until Wrestlemania. So much for hyping this match as his last. Still though, doesn't make the jobbing make sense.

On the bright side, Heyman's speech on Raw should be fun.

I didn't know what to feel after watching Goldberg destroy Brock like that, honestly not felt like that since the streak got broken. All I can say is wait for the bigger picture. Overall though the PPV was solid imo, the 5 on 5 matches were good, Charlotte turning on Bailey at the end extends their feud and sets something up for Roadblock also. The mens match was unreal tbh, so many good spots and just utter chaos going on there, and it was nice to see the Shield back on the same page for one brief powerbomb.

I can't buy into the bigger picture for Lesnar losing like that. They've built him up, hasn't lost clean in 2 years, he's a dominant beast. Beating him would have elevated someone hugely. Now it won't be as special.

Seen some people saying that it buried the entire roster who have been destroyed by Brock and in comes Goldberg to make everyone elses attempts look like shit. A bit far, but can kind of see their point.

Lesnar will ultimately come out the victor in this feud, they're not just going to dismiss everything Lesnar has done in the last 3 years.

According to the dirt sheets, he's taking part in the Rumble, so probably no match with Lesnar.

Make what you will of it i suppose... Meltzer is saying Brock and Vince both agreed with each other more money was to be made this way.
