It's just a hardware upgrade, which has been needed for a long time now. The last generation was the longest yet, meaning developers hit the hardware limits a long time ago and we've been coasting ever since. That's had an impact even on PCs games, as they don't really need to try to compete anymore. The new generation will mostly be about improving graphics, framerates, all that nerdy stuff, along with another step towards the cloud system. All three of the last consoles had online stores, but these ones will do a lot more.
This pretty much sums up how I feel about it:
I'm an Xbox guy... soon to be a Playstation guy.
The Playstation is so much cheaper than the Xbox as they're not filling it full of crap that won't be used. Playstation is a gaming console... something that Microsoft seem to have lost sight off with the Xbox.
The graphics will he a better quality to them, even though they're very good as it is. They're also moving towards allowing you to save content to their Cloud network so you can continue your game round your mates.
I really hate to lose my gamerscore, but the used game thing is a killer for me. I can't justify buying a One. I don't want to be a PS4 guy, but that's how it has to be.
Same here... I have always liked the arguments I have had with my friends, when they own an PS3 and I own my Xbox etc and we argue about which is better and Ive always been proud to be an Xbox guy...
Now it kinda feels like I have to tuck my tail between my legs as I admit im going to be a Sony guy because I look at the One and there is nothing that makes me think "All the crap is worth it"
I think the main thing Sony did right was keep it simple, it's really just a hardware upgrade. Microsoft tried to do too much and revolutionize shit and it would either go really well or really badly and it went bad and Playstation reaped the benefits of it.
Sony shouldn't totally get off the hook there though, they did add that ridiculous share button to the controller.

I actually stopped caring about my gamerscore about 2 years ago, so it's no big loss for me when i move on to the ps4.
I wouldn't even bother getting any of them if it were not me wanting to get more games that will be coming out that i know i will really want to play

What's wrong with a Share button? Being able to share a screenshot or livestream at the click of a button seems pretty handy to me.

I'm never going to do it, nor do I really care to see anyone else's screenshots. It's one of these "online community" features that this generation is pimping ridiculously hard. But then I didn't want a DVD player in my PS2 or a Blu-Ray in my PS3 either. I'm not a fan of consoles trying to be more than they are.

HAHAHA yeah i suppose you are right, at one point we were racing each other for points.. the good old days, i do kinda hope when GTA V drops we can have some fun together with that one again... i was one pigeon away from 100% in regular GTA:4 🙁
So yeah i hope me and you and perhaps others can keep up with it and we can talk about it more.. honestly i almost am looking forward to the talks about the game then the game itself... well that's a lie but its a little true.
As far as a share button goes... i don't think i'll use it... if it has the stream or record video option then i might just use it sometimes for my fighting games to pass on crazy moves/combos to my friends... that or maybe some super rare easter egg...kinda like that rainbow pic screenshot i took in Vice City, but i don't think i'll use it much if at all.

I'm actually keen on the idea of my gaming console being my entertainment console. Right now, I don't have Cable, or Sattelite, but I watch everything threw my Xbox on Netflix or Hulu... So.. yeah, why buy something that is going to cost me more to supplement?

Sweet glad to know that then... but come on dude, if there is one game that you need to go get on release date and fork over full price its GTA. infact i have started renting games mostly now from redbox and been taking advantage of my brothers ps3 and getting games for that of saving money.. i got The Last of Us last night... and so far i'm a little let down.. the first hour is boring... i shut it down for the night by then
I hope you enjoy tomb raider when you get it... it is a really good game i just hope i didn't lead you in the wrong direction because i found it to be such a great adventure...so hopefully you find much fun from it and go find all the secret shit i gave up on it.
So we've all seen the realease at E3 I can't be bothered to bring up the specs and stuff but the most important stuff will be discussed here. What do you think? Looks like a lot of Xbox guys have been converted after whatever the fuck Xbox One is trying to do. I've always been a Sony guy so if I was going to buy a new generation console it would be the PS4.
Now with the price being £350 here it looks like a bargain. However, there must be some catch, that's probably the cheapest price for the weakest console so I'm pretty sure it will get up to £40 maybe. But remembering how much the PS3 was when it first came out it looks like a good deal.
But my main problem is this; what can these new gen consoles do that my PS3 can't? Like what are Sony going to really improve on? The PS3 has pretty much everything and isn't outdated at all, so what is so revolutionary about this new generation? All I can think about is 3D gaming but 3D is dying out and was a failed fad.
