Works the same as Rate-the-song. Rate from 1-10, 1 being horrible and 10 being brilliant. It's that simple. You can request one movie for the list at a time. So once you're movie goes on the Request List, you can't choose another til it's been posted as a Rate-the-movie. This rule is in place so I don't have a request list 100 films long and so no one person hogs the request list.

RTM 2: Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (Gorgrim)

SW_-_Empire_Strikes_Back.jpg

The Empire Strikes Back (also known as Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back) is a 1980 American epic space opera film directed by Irvin Kershner. Leigh Brackett and Lawrence Kasdan wrote the screenplay, with George Lucas writing the film's story and serving as executive producer. The second installment in the original Star Wars trilogy, it was produced by Gary Kurtz for Lucasfilm Ltd. and stars Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Billy Dee Williams, Anthony Daniels, David Prowse, Kenny Baker, Peter Mayhew and Frank Oz.

The film is set three years after Star Wars. The Galactic Empire, under the leadership of the villainous Darth Vader and the Emperor, is in pursuit of Luke Skywalker and the rest of the Rebel Alliance. While Vader chases a small band of Luke's friends—Han Solo, Princess Leia Organa, and others—across the galaxy, Luke studies the Force under Jedi Master Yoda. When Vader captures Luke's friends, Luke must decide whether to complete his training and become a full Jedi Knight or to confront Vader and save them.

Following a difficult production, The Empire Strikes Back was released on May 21, 1980. It received mixed reviews from critics initially but has since grown in esteem, becoming the most critically acclaimed chapter in the Star Wars saga; it is now widely regarded as one of the greatest films of all time. The film ranks #3 on Empire's 2008 list of the 500 greatest movies of all time. It became the highest-grossing film of 1980 and, to date, has earned more than $538 million worldwide from its original run and several re-releases. When adjusted for inflation, it is the second-highest-grossing sequel of all time and the 13th-highest-grossing film in North America. The film was followed by a sequel, titled Return of the Jedi, which was released in 1983.

In 2010, the film was selected for preservation in the United States' National Film Registry by the Library of Congress for being "culturally, historically, and aesthetically significant."

For me personally, this and TFA are tied for the best Star Wars film. It gets a 9.

An easy 9. The original trilogy are all amongst my favourite films of all time.

This is a 9 as well.  Not much nerds to be said on it.

Depends on whether you want to talk about the original, or the later ones that Lucas decided to "subtlety" change. They were the perfect films before he decided that he just couldn't leave them alone. That said though, The Empire Strikes Back seemed to have the least changes, and the ones it did have were mainly cosmetic. I can deal with them so this one can probably maintain a perfect 10 from me. The other two would lost a point if they get a go sometime as some of their changes were just criminal.

Suppose I should offer up a request. Fight Club.

Rumour going around is that Disney is releasing the unaltered trilogy.

Awesome. I didn't mind some of the changes as there were a few touch ups that they did that looked great. Added scenes and changing shit was just a no.

My mother still has the VHS tapes of the trilogy. Shame she doesn't have a VHS player anymore as I have no other way to watch the better versions now. I hope they do release the unedited versions again, really do.

There are some really good changes that were made IMO, especially to the Battle of Yavin and Cloud City. The added scene with Han and Jabba at the start of A New Hope was fine too as that was actually part of the original cut anyway. I'm even not too bothered by the added song in Jabbas palace in Jedi! Most of the rest of the changes are cosmetic, which is fine as far as I'm concerned and should be kept not matter what cut they release.

The worst change done to the trilogy was pasting the creepy grinning tree that is Hayden Christensen into the end of Jedi with the ghosts of Obi Wan and Yoda.

Some changes were nice, Others were unnecessary though - like the whole scene when Obi Wan says "these aren't the droids you're looking for", they've added more stormtroopers into the background and some other animals and it looks awful. Actually looks like really poor CGI work. But then there are other parts throughout the trilogy that are better for the updates.

The new song with Jabba would have been fine, but again the CGI wasn't good. Probably would have looked fine in episodes 1-3, but it looked completely out of place in the older films. And that's probably my problem with some of the changes, you can just tell that they're later additions as they don't merge well. Not that I let that ruin my enjoyment when watching the films.

They did get rid of one of my favourite lines though when Luke tells R2-D2 that he obviously doesn't taste nice. Completely changed that line for some reason.
