One again the wrestling world has been rocked to its core as at long last a wrestlers' union has been formed, thus essentially ending all active talent contracts and putting many federations out of business. The few who have survived will attempt to rebuild. The industry leader, IFW, has been sold by sports entertainment magnate Vincent K McMahon to a mysterious consortium. The consortium has made no formal announcement except to confirm that "No, I am not Ric Flair this time."
Business will resume shortly, as a spokesperson for IFW has announced that the new owner intends to host an open invitational tournament to determine combat sports' most dangerous man. Current IFW champion Kurt Angle is expected to announce his intentions to reduce his schedule with a view to retirement, but many consider Olympic gold medallist Angle to still pose a very real threat to anybody who steps up to the plate. The challenge has caught the interest of many athletes of various backgrounds from around the world, including both amateur and professional wrestlers, boxers, mixed martial artists and more.
We can reveal that along with current IFW champion Kurt Angle, IFW has retained the services of top talent John Morrison, Austin Aries, Big Show, Finn Balor, Justin Gabriel, Randy Orton, Seth Rollins, Shelton Benjamin and Wade Barrett. We're also told that IFW alumni the Hardy Boyz have been in contact with the promotion, as have several other high profile performers. Who exactly will show up is still unclear, but one thing is for certain: Nothing is for certain.
